flower Power

Flower was born on May 30, 2018. This was a happy day for all of us, with no big problems. Her birth was fast and went off without a hitch. Her mom, Judy, handled it like a pro. It's important to remember these good, easy days, so I've gathered up photos to make her a baby picture album. You never know if you'll keep a newborn but, just in case, it's a good idea to follow their progress.

Flower is funny, naughty and becoming a wee bit strong-willed (stubborn!) as she grows up. Every morning, when we take her out to pasture, she loves to run around as fast as she can with her tail stuck high in the air. Then she stuffs herself with her mom's rich milk. Finally, she lays in the shady grass all afternoon, to sleep off her big belly full of cream. It's a nice life for a baby cow. And, since she has noticed me taking pictures, she's becoming quite the little movie star. As they say in the biz, "She loves the camera and the camera loves her!"

As the day draws near, mom Judy is "bagging up", as her udder fills with milk.

Judy is also sporting a "floppy vulva", as her body loosens up to get ready for birthing...bet you haven't seen that before!

  Here we go!

Here we go!

Feet and a nose...we all heave a sigh of relief! But see her tongue stuck hanging out of her mouth? More on that later!

Here she comes, popping out in one big push!

Good Mom, cleaning her all up.

She's a beauty. We named her, "Flower".

Her tongue was too swollen from being clamped in her mouth for her to nurse. We had to bottle feed her for a few weeks until her mouth worked right!

Wow! She's nursing on her own, all is right in the world!

Hey Flower, look at the camera!

Since she learned to nurse, this is where she spends much of her time... At 6 weeks, she's looking very grown up and pretty in pink!
